The Ethics of Abortion In most societies, abortion is a very debatable topic. Abortion is an act of killing an unborn child or fetus inside the mother’s womb. In almost all societies one question arises: is abortion an ethical or unethical act? In this paper, I will argue that Don Marquis’ argument is convincing because the fetus is a human being, and abortion is a form of murder that is both ethically and morally wrong. With these reasons, I will also consider the counter-argument for abortion. I will start by explaining Judith Jarvis Thomson argument, then I will explain Don Marquis argument. Next, I will explain why Don Marquis reasoning is more convincing for abortion is an immoral act. Finally, I will give my reasons for†¦show more content†¦The assumption of killing a fetus is immoral because it will deprive the fetus of the future value. Now of conception, the fetus is not able to avail all the opportunities of life but later when the fetus will grow, after birth, it will be able to enjoy all the future values. A fetus loses all the future values when it is killed. Therefore, inflicting this future value loss on the fetus is morally wrong. Future of a fetus includes many stages of life along with activities, and projects. These are the same life values that are part of an adult human beings and young children’s, thus this reason is enough to claim that killing fetus is wrong as killing an adult human being is wrong. My view is that Don Marquis’s argument is convincing towards the abortion analysis. This is plausible because life is God gifted it is given only once, why should one take that chance by aborting a child before birth. To me, it is like snatching a life from someone, who has a desire to live and avail all the values of life. Killing a potential human is wrong because imagine a child that has been killed, was alive, would have a future like us, therefore abortion is wrong in any case such as if parents don’t want a child a nymore.
